Altenburg Castle (Breberen)
Haus Altenburg, also called Alteburg, is a rural manor house on the site of an early motte-and-bailey castle in the Saeffelbach valley near the district of Breberen (Altenburgstraße 24) in the municipality of Gangelt in the Heinsberg district in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The castle complex, a motte, formerly built by the Lords of Heinsberg and surrounded by moats, was first mentioned in a document in 1330 as "Hof ten berghe".
After a new construction in 1658, the two-story brick manor house with a hip roof on a double T-shaped floor plan, connected to the three-winged courtyard by a brick bridge, was built around 1782 and is still visible today.
