Albini Castle

The moated castle had a square floor plan with sides 60 meters long, an outer bailey, and a keep in the middle of the castle courtyard.

A bridge over the Gersprenz led to the castle, which was further connected to Dieburg's town fortifications by two spur walls.

Today, a corner tower of the bailey ("Schlossturm" - Castle Tower), as well as remnants of the bailey walls and the "Albini Castle" are preserved. Baron Franz Joseph von Albini, to whom the Hessian Landgrave Ludwig X gifted the castle in 1802 for his diverse services, had almost all buildings and rampart remnants demolished in 1809 and a square castle complex erected in the southern area.

Also restored today are the spur walls, the northern stream crossing over the Gersprenz, and the castle bridge from the 16th century.

East between the Castle Tower and Albini Castle, the neo-Gothic former district office of the old district of Dieburg was built in 1902/03. This is currently being completely renovated and rebuilt. After the completion of the work, the northern view will be significantly altered.

Of the Dieburg town walls demolished in the 19th century, the Mill Tower and a stump of the Witch Tower are still preserved.
