Aichet Castle
Aichet Castle is located in the statutory city of Steyr in Upper Austria (Sierninger Straße 82). The name Aichet is reminiscent of oak trees that used to stand in this part of the city.
Aichet was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. In the 16th century, it was brought into its current form by Michael Aiden. Michael Aiden was a city judge (1585) and from 1595 to 1597 mayor of Steyr. From 1615 to 1636, Aichet Castle was owned by Wolf Katzianer von Fladnitz zum Katzenstein. He was followed by Baron von Walkun von Herberstorff, cousin of Count Adam von Herberstorff. In 1782, it belonged to the Barons von Riesenfels. Further owners were the Köstler family in 1930 and today the Pampel family.
Aichet Castle today+
The two-story building has a mighty gable roof with a half-hip. At the eastern corner of the building, starting from the upper floor, there is a corbelled round bay window with a conical roof. The castle houses the private folklore collection of Marianne Kautsch, grandmother of the castle owner. It is a protected monument.
