Affing Castle
Affing Castle is a former moated castle located at Schlossplatz 1 in Affing, a municipality in the Swabian district of Aichach-Friedberg. As a Hofmark castle, it was the manorial seat of the Hofmark Affing. The castle is a protected architectural monument.
The Lords of Affing were first mentioned in 1040. Since the 14th century, the Hofmark Affing frequently changed owners. In 1682, ownership passed to the Barons of Leyden, and in 1816, Count Maximilian Anton von Leyden sold the Hofmark Affing to Karl Ernst von Gravenreuth. The Iglhof castle estate also came into his possession.
A castle previously stood on the site of the current castle, which was burned down in 1462 by Margrave Albrecht Achilles of Brandenburg and rebuilt by Wolfgang von Waldeck († 1483). Johann Baptist Freiherr von Leyden (Electoral Vice-Chancellor in Munich) had the castle rebuilt starting in 1694. It was destroyed by fire in 1928 and rebuilt in its original form by Oswald Bieber.
Architectural Description+
The three-story building with a hipped roof and roof dormer features a narrow central risalit. The portal is adorned with a carved wooden door from 1777. Adjoining the castle building is a walled castle park, which also houses the 19th-century orangery building.
