Adelsheim Castle

The castle was built in 1614 on the northern outskirts of the town by Collegiate Dean Degenhart Neuchinger. For a long time, it served the upper class as a noble residence. In 1795, the Electoral Bavarian Chief Salt Office moved in, and Prince-Provost Joseph Konrad von Schroffenberg-Möos spent the last remaining weeks of his life in Adelsheim, where he died on April 4, 1803. After being in private ownership until 1961, the castle has been owned by the district of Berchtesgaden since 1963, and by the district of Berchtesgadener Land since 1972.

Since 1968, this Renaissance castle has housed the Berchtesgaden Local History Museum, founded in 1897, which, among other things, features a permanent exhibition of historical and current examples of Berchtesgaden goods as a collection focus.
