Abenberg Castle

Abensberg Castle was first mentioned in 1256. There was an outer bailey, which was separated from the main castle by a deep moat. On the north and west sides stand baroque wings, formerly administrative buildings with gabled roofs, medieval in core, with a flanking tower from the 13th/14th century at the northeast corner. On the southern ring stands a late Gothic semi-circular tower and the head building with a mansard roof. Only remnants of the main castle remain after the destructions of the Thirty Years' War. Furthermore, remnants of the ring walls and flanking towers, zwinger, hipped roof building on the south side, 16th/17th century in core; city moat and pond systems are preserved.
