Schachtenburg Castle (Schlitz)

The Schachtenburg+
History+
Construction and Early Ownership
The Schachtenburg was built in 1557 by the widow Elisabeth (daughter of Junker Werner von Schlitz) of the Hessian War Councillor Wilhelm von Schachten. This house, however, does not originate from the medieval city fortifications like the others. The Schachtenburg remained in the possession of the Grand Ducal Hessian District Court until 1896. Today, it is part of the retirement home.
