Kloster Marienborn

The Marienborn Monastery was founded around 1250, initially established on the Herrnhaag near Büdingen. The convent's relocation to Marienborn, in what is now Büdingen-Eckartshausen, occurred around 1274 due to water scarcity at the original site. The legal process of this resettlement extended until 1286. Over the centuries, the monastery maintained ties with the Lords and Counts of Isenburg-Büdingen, as well as the Lords and Counts of Hanau. A reform of the monastery was undertaken in 1460 by Archbishop Diether von Isenburg of Mainz. During the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved after initial attempts to convert it to Protestantism failed, but economic pressure from the loss of patronage rights and income gradually increased.

The former Marienborn Monastery is situated in the Hesse region of Germany, near the Eckartshausen district of the town of Büdingen. The complex lies at an elevation of approximately 150 meters above sea level.

The ensemble of the former Marienborn Monastery is currently known as Hofgut Marienborn. It is protected as a cultural monument in Hesse.
