Tuor Castle (Ruin) (Sumvitg)

The remains of the Castle can be visited

The ruins of Tuor Castle are located northwest of Sumvitg in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, above the road to Clavadi.

The heavily overgrown ruins of a rectangular tower, measuring 7.5 by 5.6 meters, have been preserved. The masonry consists of regularly hewn stones with a lot of infill material. Striking are the heavily rusticated corner stones with extremely precise edge dressing. The small usable area inside suggests a wooden cantilevered superstructure with living quarters. No traces of a curtain wall or other ancillary buildings are found, but rural buildings can be assumed given the modest dimensions of the tower.

Written documents about the origin and history of the castle are missing. Tuor Castle may have been inhabited by servants of Disentis Monastery.
