Schadburg Castle (Ruin) (Ringgenberg)

The remains of the Castle can be visited

The ruin of the castle is located above the village of Ringgenberg on the road to Niederried.

The castle appears to have been built in several construction phases in the 12th century. However, there is no documentary mention of Schadburg until 1240. Based on the castle's location, it seems to have served to secure and control the path between Brienz and Interlaken.

According to legend, Baron Kuno von Ringgenberg began building a dungeon in the 13th century. However, before he could finish the construction, he was murdered.
