Riedburg Castle (Ruin) (Köniz)
The Riedburg is a medieval castle ruin from the 14th century, located in the Swiss municipality of Köniz in the canton of Bern.
The Riedburg is situated above the Schwarzwasser Gorge. Today, the moat, the castle mound, parts of the tower and the palas, as well as some wall remnants, are preserved.
Around 1350, the castle was built and served as the seat of Ivo von Bolligen. The dominion included the castle and the surrounding areas between Sense and Scherlibach. Already in 1386, the castle was destroyed by the Fribourgers during a conflict between Bern and Fribourg. From 1388, the Riedburg dominion belonged to the city-state of Bern. In the 15th century, the dominion came into the possession of the Bernese patrician families von Buch and Brüggler. They built a manor house in the vicinity (stone substructure, wooden superstructure).
