Pölzig Castle (Ruin)

Pölzig was first mentioned in the 12th century as a moated castle under the Lords of Pölzig. Owners included the families von Hagenest, von Schwandlitz, and von Zehmen. In 1685, the castle burned down. The owners at that time were the Counts of Donnersmarck, who erected a baroque castle complex in 1686/87.

After several fires, the outbuildings and a mausoleum were rebuilt in 1895. Under the Ames family, the castle tower was blown up in 1936 and the upper part of the building was removed. After the expropriation in 1945, the manor house, outbuildings, estate barn, and brewery were completely demolished. What remains to this day are the castle ruins, a gatehouse, a wash and bake house, and the carriage house. In 2001, the complex was redesigned by the local heritage association.
