History+
Neuburg Castle, located above Mammern in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland, was built in the mid-13th century by Baron Ulrich III von Altenklingen. From 1319, it was a fiefdom of St. Gallen Abbey and changed hands several times. In 1690, Rheinau Abbey acquired it. However, the castle was demolished in 1745. Today, extensive ruins with remnants of the large curtain wall can still be seen. From the main castle, the foundation remains of the keep are preserved.
Current State+
The original magnificent view from Neuburg Castle over Lake Untersee is now obstructed by overgrown fir trees and undergrowth.
