Kramburg Castle (Ruin) (Gelterfingen)
Kramburg is a medieval castle ruin located in the Swiss municipality of Gelterfingen in the canton of Bern.
Kramburg is situated on the southwestern edge of the Belpberg on a rocky spur. The ramparts and moat are still recognizable today, and some wall remnants are also preserved.
The castle was the ancestral seat of the Barons of Kramburg, who were vassals of the Kyburgs but also held the castle rights of the city of Bern. Their dominion encompassed several villages, including Gelterfingen and Mühledorf. In 1355, the Kramburg lineage died out, and the dominion passed to the Barons of Resti. Subsequently, in 1373, the dominion came as a legacy to the Commandery of the Order of St. John in Münchenbuchsee. They sold the dominion to Bern in 1528. After this, the castle appears to have been abandoned and fell into disrepair.
