Keula Castle (Ruin)
The Keula moated castle is a castle ruin at about 300 m above sea level in Brauhausgasse on the western edge of the Keula district of the municipality of Helbedündorf in the Kyffhäuser district in Thuringia.
The moated castle was first mentioned in 967 as an Ottonian royal estate. Later, the castle was the official seat of the Honsteiners and then came under Schwarzburg rule. In the 17th century, extensions were made, and in 1772 and 1811, parts of the castle were demolished.
Of the castle complex with an oval core castle, remnants of the castle buildings, the castle gate, the cellar, the fortification wall, the bridge to the castle, and the rampart moat are still preserved.
