Eversberg Castle (Ruin)
The ruins of Eversberg Castle are located on the Eversberg above the Ruhr Valley in the Eversberg district of Meschede in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Count Eberhard von Arnsberg had the hilltop castle built between 1093 and 1124. It was destroyed by fire in 1235 and finally rebuilt under Count Gottfried III von Arnsberg to secure his territory against Electoral Cologne. Here he founded the town of Eversberg in 1242 and granted it Lippstadt town rights.
Since the 16th century, the complex has fallen into disrepair, of which today only the stump of the keep with a viewing platform and minor wall remains are preserved.
