Ettling Castle (Ruin)
The Ettling castle ruin is a castle ruin on an artificial island in the spring pond of the Kelsbach stream in the Ettling district of the market town of Pförring in the Eichstätt district in Bavaria.
In 1145, the noble free family of the Oetlinger, who died out in 1190, was first mentioned with the leading name Reginold, whose construction and ownership of the castle is not secured.
In 1248, a Bavarian ministerialis was first mentioned, who was a district judge in Vohburg in 1270. In 1417, the castle came into the possession of Hans Laiminger through sale, in 1490 to the Schmiechen von Wackerstein through marriage, and in 1534 to the Notthaft zu Wernberg. After the castle was abandoned, its decay soon began.
From the castle-like island fortress, rubble masonry remains of the curtain wall, a vaulted palas, and the niche of the castle chapel can still be seen.
