Blankenstein Castle (Ruin)
The Blankenstein ruin is the ruin of a spur castle on a high rock spur on the slope of the Brunnental, a side valley of the Große Lauter, near the Wasserstetten district of the municipality of Gomadingen in the Reutlingen district in Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was built by the Lords of Blankenstein in the 12th century, and in 1182 Bertold von Blankenstein is mentioned in a document. The castle was owned by the noble free lords of Dapfen and the Counts of Württemberg. Around 1442 the castle fell into disrepair. In 1977, the remains of the keep were secured.
Of the former castle complex, apart from the remains of the keep on a base area of about 7 by 7 meters, only minor remains of a rampart and the neck ditch are preserved.
