Baldeck Castle (Ruin)
Baldeck Castle is a vanished castle on a high rock above the upper Erms Valley, 2000 meters southwest of the Wittlingen district of the city of Bad Urach in the Reutlingen district in Baden-Württemberg.
The rock castle Baldeck Castle (from the Middle High German baldw = bold) was built around 1250 by the lower noble Lords of Baldeck, who were vassals of the Counts of Urach. In 1256, the castle was documented by Counts Rudolf of Tübingen, Ulrich of Württemberg, and Hartmann of Grüningen during a siege. The castle presumably fell victim to the siege and was abandoned in the first half of the 16th century.
Around 1700, the ruin, popularly known as "Mörderschlössle" (Murderer's Little Castle), was presumably demolished so that it could no longer be used as a robber's hideout. Only a few wall remains and steps carved into the rock are preserved from the former castle complex.
