Altwinnenden Castle (Ruin)
Altwinnenden Castle, also known as Bürg Castle, is a ruined castle above the Höfen-Stöckenhof road in the Bürg district of the city of Winnenden in the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg.
In the first half of the 12th century, the spur castle was built by the Lords of Winnenden, and in 1181, the keep was erected by Gottfried von Winnenden on the mountain spur.
In 1210, the castle was mentioned as "castrum Winidum", and was expanded in 1212 and 1225. The Lords of Neuffen are also named as further owners. The castle fell into disrepair in the 15th century and was demolished between 1536 and 1538, except for the keep.
Layout+
Of the former castle-like complex, only the round, 23-meter-high keep with a diameter of 7.5 meters and a wall thickness of 2.8 meters, featuring ashlar masonry, remains.
