Alt-Ehrenfels Castle (Ruin)
The ruin Alt-Ehrenfels, also called Ehrenfels, is the ruin of a hilltop castle at the exit of the Schweiftal valley, 2100 meters west of the town of Hayingen near Ehrenfels Castle in the district of Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was built in the 13th century by the Lords of Ehrenfels; in 1257, an Anselm von Ehrenfels was mentioned. Later owners of the castle were the Lords of Gundelfingen. Since the castle later served as a hideout for robbers, it was destroyed in 1516 by troops from Zwiefalten Monastery. Of the former castle complex, the remains of a round keep with a diameter of 7 meters, built on a shield wall, are still preserved, as well as minor remains of a neck ditch.
