Roman Fort Heidenburg
The Heidenburg is a former Roman mountain fort. It is located in the Heidenburg forests on the summit of the "Kreimberg" at an altitude of approximately 390 m above sea level, above the municipality of Kreimbach-Kaulbach on the Lauter in the district of Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Around 400 BC, Celts built a refuge castle with a ring wall, and in 260 AD, this developed into a Roman mountain fort as a protective wall against the Alemanni, which, according to ceramic finds, suggests use until the 5th century.
Excavations began in 1890, and an observation tower was erected from Roman spolia.
Of the former fortification, wall remains of the ring wall and the later erected observation tower are still preserved.
