Roman Villa Urbana Longuich

The Villa Urbana in Longuich is a Roman villa urbana, which was built on the site of an older villa rustica. Parts of the villa were excavated and reconstructed in Longuich/Mosel on the "Roman Wine Route".

The villa was built in the 2nd century AD and had an area of 110 by 28 meters. Due to its size and furnishings, it is assumed that it served as a retirement residence for a high-ranking official from nearby Augusta Treverorum (Trier).

Wall remains of the villa were found in 1984 during land consolidation work. They were excavated, preserved, and the buildings partially reconstructed. Visitors can see a part of the former side wing with a bathhouse consisting of a Caldarium (hot bath), Tepidarium (warm bath), Sudatorium (sweat bath), Frigidarium (cold bath), and Praefurnium (furnace room).

In addition to the villa, remains of other buildings, primarily serving agricultural purposes, were found during the excavations. A stone sarcophagus with the skeleton of a young girl was also discovered.
