Wurgwitz Manor

A manor house in Wurgwitz is mentioned as early as the 13th century. In 1651, the von Schleinitz family sold the property to Christian Freiherr von Schrenkendorf, the Privy Secretary at the Electoral Court in Dresden. This family also owned Klingenberg and managed both estates together. The manor house was only built in the 18th century. In 1801, Christian Gottlieb Brendel, the owner of a coal mine, bought the property. However, his descendants fell into debt, so the estate had to be sold in 1880. Only the manor house remained in the family's possession. In 1884, it underwent a major renovation, during which a second floor was added and the stair tower was also erected. The estate was expropriated by the communists in 1945, but returned in 1990. The owner founded the Wurgwitz concrete plant, which is now insolvent.
