Rüdigsdorf Manor

Rüdigsdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1271 by Henry the Illustrious as Ruedegersdorff. In 1471, the brothers Heinrich and Wenzel von Rüdigsdorf are named as owners. In 1575, the first mention of a teacher (Jakob Gentsch from Geithain) is found. In 1579, the owner of the village (the von Rüdigsdorf family) sold the village together with Neuhof to Joachim von Loß. The owner families changed frequently from then on: 1581 von Lüttichau, 1585 von Rüdigsdorf, 1592 von Helldorf, 1595 von Einsiedel, then von Heynitz, von Pflugk, von Koseritz, 1718 von Schindler and 1783 von Rayska. In 1810, the publisher Siegfried Leberecht Crusius bought the Rüdigsdorf manor with Neuhof, having previously inherited the neighboring Sahlis manor from his uncle Georg Leberecht Crusius in 1795. Until 1945, Rüdigsdorf and Sahlis remained in the possession of the Crusius family for over 5 generations.

In 1822, the quarrying of Rüdigsdorf sandstone in the quarry ended. After the conversion of the manor house in classical style, from 1823 the garden of the manor house was laid out in English style and an orangery was built. In 1830, a new school was built, later a harvest kindergarten as a log cabin in Swiss style. In 1839, the Schwind Pavilion was inaugurated. In 1848, Wilhelm Leberecht Crusius, as patron, had the church extended in the Neo-Gothic style.

In the course of the land reform in 1945, the Crusius family was expropriated and expelled by the communists. The Rüdigsdorf estate with Neuhof was divided among approximately 20 new settlers, who established new farmsteads in Rüdigsdorf on Verbotener Weg, at Neuhof and in Linda.

In 2001, the von Breitenbuch family, as heirs of the Crusius family, bought back and renovated the estate and manor house.
