Ostenwalde Manor

Ostenwalde Manor was a knight's seat north of Melle in Lower Saxony.

It presumably originally served as a bulwark to protect an old hillfort that was located on the mountain at the time. Ostenwalde is the ancestral seat of the noble family of the Lords and Barons von Vincke, who have been documented as ministeriales serving the Bishop of Osnabrück since 1223 and still own the manor today. In 1343, the house is mentioned as the seat of Omer von Vincke.

The family were also always members of the state parliament. In 1945, the manor house became the headquarters of the British Army under Bernard Montgomery. The manor house was once surrounded by wide moats. The two-story west wing is the current main building. In the park behind the manor house, there is an orangery and, since 1839, a Gothic well house that previously stood in the marketplace of Herford.
