Niederjahna Manor

The manor house in Niederjahna has been mentioned since the 13th century. At that time, a moated castle existed here, of which a small island in the castle pond still bears witness today. The manor house is kept quite simple. It was built in 1691 by Hans Dietrich von Miltitz. The noble family von Miltitz was rich in estates in the Meissen area and is considered one of the most important noble families in the region. Two reliefs on the house still point to this past today. The reliefs also reveal other things about the castle. At the house entrance, which dates from 1560, the coats of arms of Maria von Sundthausen and Hans von Schleinitz can be discovered. The house features valuable painted wooden ceilings. These paintings are said to have been executed around 1691. Until 1945, Günther Freiherr von Bischoffshausen was the last owner. Then the house went to the municipality and temporarily housed apartments, a cinema, a kindergarten and a sales outlet. Today, the object, which has since been privatized again, is for sale.
