Niederburkau Manor

The village of Burkau near Pulsnitz stretches 4 km along its main road. It was once divided into three manors: the knightly estates of Oberburkau, Niederburkau, and Kleinburkau. Kleinburkau did not exist for long, and so the estates in Niederburkau and Oberburkau prevailed.

The knightly estate in Niederburkau probably originated from a knight's seat already mentioned here in 1414. Possibly there was a moated castle at this location in the Middle Ages. Until 1815, Niederburkau was in noble possession. Ehrenfried Wilhelm Günther von Jagermann owned the knightly estate of Niederburkau in 1794. He sold a part of it to Wilhelmine von Rackel. From this part, the Kleinburkau estate emerged. In 1837, however, this estate was split among 5 farmers. After 1945, apartments were set up in Niederburkau Manor. Today the building is in private ownership.
