Niederbarkhausen Manor (Asemissen)
Gut Barkhausen, also known as Gut Niederbarkhausen, is located in the Asemissen district of the municipality of Leopoldshöhe in the Lippe district, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The estate is first mentioned on May 25, 1036, in the Busdorf Charter. In that year, Bishop Meinwerk of Paderborn transferred, among other things, the tithes of the manorial estate of Barkhausen, originating from the episcopal mensa, along with the outworks of Oerlinghausen, Eckendorf in present-day Leopoldshöhe, Menkhausen in present-day Oerlinghausen, and the later Meierhöfe in Heepen and Borgsen in Brackwede, to the Busdorf Canonry in Paderborn.
With five outworks, the Barkhausen demesne belonged to the larger episcopal court associations.
After the estate became a knight's estate in 1840, during the Revolution of 1848/49, it was attacked by 1,000 Heuerlinge (tenant farmers) and farm laborers, who abducted the owners and only released them after concessions were made.
Barkhausen is located on the northern slope of the Teutoburg Forest at the transition to the Ravensberg Hills. It is close to the border with Oerlinghausen and Oerlinghausen town center.
Estate Park+
The estate park, laid out before 1895, is characterized by old trees on the lawns, complemented by remnants of furnishing elements, such as a fountain basin in the center. The southern and eastern parts of the park consist mainly of lawns with trees at the edge and individual flower beds.
The Holzkampbach stream, which originates as the Grütebach in Oerlinghausen, flows through the estate grounds. Directly adjacent to the park to the south is the nature reserve "Grüte" of the same name.
Buildings+
A four-story, 14-meter-high escape and defensive tower, presumably from the 14th century, stands today. It was originally a two-story stone granary, probably dating back to the Middle Ages. It was renovated around 1870 and raised by one story. The latter slightly projects on a Neo-Romanesque round arch frieze made of ashlar. In 1960, the roof structure with the clock tower was simplified and renewed.
The manor house was built in 1608 but has been altered several times since. It features a Baroque-Classical facade towards the park and the main entrance of the estate.
