Gut Marienforst

In the early 13th century, Premonstratensian nuns from Füssenich established a settlement in the valley of the Godesberger Bach, which became known as Kottenforst Monastery. Due to economic difficulties and declining monastic discipline, Archbishop Dietrich II of Moers of Cologne dissolved the monastery around 1450. In its place, a new foundation was established by the Swedish Bridgettine Order (Order of the Most Holy Saviour) following the rules of Saint Augustine. The Cistercian monastery of Frauenthal was assigned to the new convent for a shared household, and in return, Walberberg Monastery received 350 florins. From then on, the complex was named Marienforst. As a double monastery, it housed monks and nuns in separate enclosures. The abbess managed the economic operations, while the monks were responsible for religious services. In 1613, some nuns and Abbess Ursula von Distelmann were sent to Cologne to strengthen monastic order there. During the siege of Bonn in 1689, the monastery was plundered by French troops. In the course of secularization, Marienforst Monastery was dissolved in 1802, and its property was nationalized. The monastery church was initially intended to serve as a parish church but was demolished the following year, and its furnishings were distributed among various churches in the region.

The Marienforst Manor is located in Bonn, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated in the Bad Godesberg district, in the Schweinheim locality, at Marienforster Straße 50.

The historic farm complex is currently used as a dairy farm. It is a protected monument.
