Kirchscheidungen Manor

To be privately owned

The Kirchscheidungen Manor, an impressive manor and estate house, is located in Kirchscheidungen in the Burgenland district of Saxony-Anhalt. It is a testament to a turbulent history and architectural development, now in private ownership.

History+

The origins of the Kirchscheidungen Manor date back a long way. The so-called Niederschloss, a Saxon male fief, formed the foundation of the complex. Historical descriptions from the early 20th century suggest a picturesque ruin with a keep, chapel, and corner tower, connected by a stone bridge to a thatched residential and farm building. From 1424, the Lords of Rockhausen inhabited the Niederschloss. Over the centuries, it developed into a large manor with upper, middle, and lower courts. The middle court once bore a gate arch inscription from 1583, referring to the Rockhausen family. The upper court, in its current form built around 1748/49 as a four-sided courtyard, was owned by the Lords of Schulenburg. In the late 19th century, the manor house acquired its current Baroque appearance with a high central risalit and mansard roof. After World War II, the manor was dissolved as part of the land reform; the right wing of the manor house was demolished to provide building materials for new farmsteads, and the farm buildings were repurposed.
