The foundation of the manor house occurred with the colonization of the village "Irfersgrün" between 1200 and 1250. Since time immemorial, the village and the parish were closely connected with the manor house or the "Herrenhof", as it was also called. The inhabitants of Irfersgrün were referred to as "subjects".

Since about 1550, the respective owners held hereditary, feudal, and patronage rights. They were "Schriftsässig", meaning they could exercise lower jurisdiction. During the division of land at the time of the colonization of Vogtland, the manor house to be enfeoffed was endowed with 10 Königshufen (about 350 ha). This was approximately 10 times what a simple settler received for himself and his family.

The oldest owner of the local manor house known by name is mentioned in a document from June 24, 1274, as Eberhartus von Ehrenphorsgrüne. In its eventful history, the ownership of the manor house changed about 30 times.

Since May 21, 1805, the manor house has belonged to the "von Arnim" family. The last owner since 1920 was Baron Sigurd Alom Erik von Arnim. In 1945, after the end of the war, he was taken to an internment camp on the island of Rügen, where he died of pneumonia. The manor house was divided among landless farmers during the land reform of 1945.

It later became a state-owned estate (VEG) and a training center for combine harvester drivers. Today, the listed Irfersgrün manor house is a popular destination for every visitor who feels transported back to the time of the old knights within the manor house.
