Deensen Manor

The village of Dedenhusen was first mentioned in 1220, and in further documents from the 13th and 14th centuries as Deddenhusen. In 1483, Godewart von Campe received the right to rebuild the village of Deensen, which had been devastated in the Hussite Wars (1419–1436), as a manor and to settle it with people as he pleased. A moated castle was built, and people settled around it. The moated castle fell into disrepair over the centuries. In 1825, the present manor house was built on the foundations of the old moated castle; cellar vaults and meter-thick sandstone walls still bear witness to the old times. The moat and later upper village pond were largely filled in. Today, there is only a pond on the north side of the manor house, which reaches up to the walls. In 1970, the manor was sold after 500 years of ownership by the von Campe family. Since 1985, the former manor house with its stables has served as a holiday and equestrian farm.
