Brunkensen Manor

The manor house of Wrisbergholzen is a historic building located in the village of Wrisbergholzen, Lower Saxony, Germany. It has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages and has undergone several transformations over the centuries.

The manor house was originally owned by the Lords of Wrisberg and later by the Counts Görtz–Wrisberg.

Medieval Origins

The first documented mention of a fortified building on the site dates back to the 13th century. It was likely a moated castle, typical for the region at that time.

Renaissance and Baroque Transformations

In the 16th century, the medieval castle was converted into a Renaissance manor house. Further significant alterations were made in the 18th century, giving the building its present Baroque appearance.

The manor house is a two-story building with a mansard roof. It features a central projection and is adorned with various decorative elements, including stucco work and sculptures.

The Main Building

The main building is characterized by its elegant facade and symmetrical design. The entrance portal is particularly noteworthy, with its elaborate carvings and the family crest.

The Chapel

Adjacent to the main building is a chapel, which was added in the 18th century. It features a richly decorated interior with an altar and frescoes.

Today, the manor house is privately owned and not generally accessible to the public. However, the exterior can be viewed from a distance, and the surrounding park is occasionally open for special events.
