Bolzum Manor

The Bolzum Manor was a "noble seat". It included the village of Bolzum and had lower jurisdiction. The current complex dates back to Statius von Münchhausen at the end of the 16th century. The manor house dates from the first half of the 17th century. The manor grounds were once enclosed by a wall and a moat. It is still an impressive ensemble today.

The first lords of the manor were the de Bolthessem. They were followed by the von Haus and other noble families, including a Baron von Münchhausen. In 1769, Prince-Bishop Friedrich Wilhelm acquired the estate for the Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim. Through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, it fell to the Kingdom of Prussia, in 1806 to the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia, and in 1815 after the Congress of Vienna to the Kingdom of Hanover. After the annexation by Prussia in 1866, the estate became a Prussian domain. In 1876 it was sold and changed hands several times. Agriculture was abandoned and in 1972 the merchant family Böhm acquired the estate as a family residence.

The buildings are stylishly restored and sometimes serve as a setting for cultural events.
