History+
A manor house Bollen is mentioned in 1366 as being in the possession of Lubbert von Budde zu Haßlage. Later, ownership transferred to the Barons von Ketteler.
Architectural Features+
The Main Building
The main building is a two-story plastered building with a hipped roof, built in 1701. The nine-axis facade is structured by a central risalit and corner pilasters. The risalit is crowned by a triangular gable with the coat of arms of the von Ketteler and von der Recke families. The entrance portal is framed by an elaborate sandstone structure.
The Moat
The building is surrounded by a moat, which is fed by the nearby stream. The moat was originally part of a larger defensive system that also included ramparts and palisades.
The Chapel
To the east of the main building is a small chapel, built in 1710. It is a simple plastered building with a rectangular floor plan and a hipped roof. The interior is decorated with frescoes from the 18th century.
Current Use+
Haus Bollen is privately owned and is not open to the public. It is used as a residential building and for agricultural purposes.
