Börtewitz Manor

In Börtewitz, a manor was founded around 1200. In the following centuries, various noble families resided here, such as the Lords of Taupadel, von Günderode, von Ende, and von Wolframsdorf. The manor house itself was only built in the 18th century. The owner at that time was Georg Friedrich von Buda. At the beginning of the 20th century, the house was owned by Eduard Walter Thomas. Under his rule, the manor house was largely rebuilt. He had the turret added and the gable attached. These changes took place from 1916 to 1917. This may be the reason for the Art Nouveau influence that adheres to the gable. In 1930, Woldemar Erich Clauss is mentioned as the owner. The family was dispossessed and expelled by the communists in 1945, but was able to reclaim the manor house after 1990. However, they sold the house to the municipality of Bockelwitz, whose active mayor, Michael Heckel, is having the estate developed into a cultural center for the community.
