Birkhof Manor (Korschenbroich)

The core of the estate was a small forest area in the plains of the Lower Rhine, which had been spared from the Frankish clearings. It was surrounded by a generous arable land that was used for agriculture for centuries.

The "Hof Byrke" came into the possession of the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. In 1244, the Neuss couple Gisela and Sibert von Dülken contributed the Birkhof with 290 Morgen of land as the basis for their foundation of a Neuss poor hospital. This hospital was handed over to the Teutonic Order in Elsen.

Parts of the current building complex were erected in the 17th century. After 1814, the estate came into the possession of the Weidenfeld family. In 1839, the majority of the still existing buildings were constructed in a classical style. In 1846, the estate was declared a manor house eligible for the state parliament by a declaration of the Prussian King Frederick William IV. However, during the Revolution of 1848/49, the declaration was revoked. In 1905, the Art Nouveau tower with a clock was completed on the main building.

For many centuries, the core business of the farm was agriculture and livestock breeding. In 1929, the cultivation of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths also began, and a flower bulb mail order business (before 1950 only to wholesalers) was established. The mail order business was discontinued in the 1980s and 1990s, after sales to private customers took place in several garden centers operated by the estate - one of them directly at the manor house. The regionally known garden center of the family was closed at the turn of the year 2008/2009, but reopened in March 2010.

The manor house includes an outbuilding, stylistically unusual for the area, built in the Schinkel style as a brick building with a

Gothicizing stepped gable. Due to the risk of collapse, the building was restored in 1986. Today, the building houses a café.

The manor house borders a park about 200 years old with a historic stock of oak and beech trees. This park and the adjacent chestnut avenue are designated as natural monuments.

In 1996, a 27-hole golf course with numerous ponds was established on 84 hectares, whose fairways and greens blend into the park landscape.

In 2007, the facility was expanded by another 9-hole Par 72 course.
