Abbensen Manor

The town of Abbensen was first mentioned in a document in 1221. The Abbensen manor was first mentioned in 1279 as Abbensen Castle. In 1383, the Duke of Braunschweig and Lüneburg granted the feudal rights over the entire village of Abbensen to the knight Burchard von Saldern. In 1654, the Chamber President Paul Joachim von Bülow acquired the manor with princely permission for 1,000 Thaler in cash.

General Cuno Josua von Bülow, later lord of Abbensen, drove out troops of a Saxon-Danish invasion from the town in 1700. In 1727, he was appointed Field Marshal by George II, King of Great Britain and Hanover.

In 1870, the manor was taken over by Heino von Heimburg as a tenant, who later received half of the estate as a gift for his efforts to end the estate's bankruptcy and bought the other half.

In 1890, Amtsrat Heinrich von Schwartz bought the manor for his son Karl. The von Schwartz family still manages the estate as an agricultural business today.
