Riedheimsches Castle
History of the Castle+
The castle was built around 1450 by the Barons of Riedheim. In 1560, the north wing was constructed. From 1763-70, the castle was rebuilt into its current form under Baron Johann Alexander von Riedheim. From 1972-77, the castle underwent renovation.
Architectural Features+
The castle is a four-winged complex with a rectangular courtyard. The main building has three stories and a hipped roof. The facade is adorned with various decorative elements, including bay windows, oriels, and turrets. The interior features a grand staircase, a chapel, and several richly decorated halls.
The Castle Chapel
The castle chapel, dedicated to St. Alexander, is located in the east wing. It was built in 1765 and features a magnificent Rococo altar. The ceiling fresco depicts scenes from the life of St. Alexander.
Current Use+
Today, the castle is privately owned and not open to the public. However, it can be rented for events and celebrations. The castle grounds are occasionally used for cultural events, such as concerts and theater performances.
