Radibor Castle

The origins of the estate date back to the 11th century, when a manor house already existed on this site. The estate was first documented in 1397 under its owner Sigismund Behr. Ownership changed frequently, including families such as von Haugwitz and von Minckwitz. In the early 18th century, between 1701 and 1708, or according to other sources 1719/1720, Friedrich Wilhelm von Schack had the current late Baroque castle built. Later, the estate passed through the hands of various noble families, including the von Ried, von Bolza, and von Bose. In the 19th century, bourgeois owners like Johann Georg Geißler and the Swoboda family followed, before it returned to aristocratic possession, including the von Voss and von Einsiedel families. After expropriation during the land reform of 1945/46, the castle was used for various purposes, including as the Sorbian Institute for Teacher Training. Since 2021, it has been back in private ownership and is undergoing extensive renovation.

Radibor Castle is located at approximately 170 m above sea level in the municipality of Radibor, in the Bautzen district, in the federal state of Saxony, Germany.

Today, Radibor Castle is privately owned and has been undergoing extensive renovation since 2021. It is a listed building.
