Probstei Castle (Sannerz)

In 1364, Frowin von Hutten received a farm located on the western edge of the village of Sannerz, which was expanded into a fortified house. The last descendant of the von Hutten-Steckelberg family died here in 1704. When the Diocese of Fulda founded the Sannerz Provostry in 1735, the Hutten House became the seat of the new provostry.

In 1778, Provost Karl Freiherr von Piesport had the building transformed into a representative Baroque structure. The entrance portal with its high, double-flight sandstone staircase forms the central axis of the symmetrical building with a mansard roof. The round stair tower rising on the side probably dates from the 16th century. In 1802, the provost's castle was secularized, but it was bought back by the Diocese of Fulda in 1845.

In 1946, the Salesians took over the management of the house and have used it ever since as a youth welfare center with a vocational training facility. During renovation work from 1978 to 1982, the building was demolished except for the stair tower and the solid ground floor, and the upper floor and roof were renewed.
