Prinzessinnenpalais

The Princess's Palace (Baroque Ducal House) was owned by the Dukes of Saxe-Weissenfels.

The building was constructed between 1670 and 1672 by Duke August of Saxe-Weissenfels for his wife, Louise. It served as a residence and administrative building for the ducal court.

After the death of Duke August, the palace was inherited by his son, Duke Johann Adolf I. He continued to use it as a residence and expanded it with a garden and an orangery.

In the 18th century, the palace was used by various members of the ducal family. Among others, it served as a residence for Princess Amalie, daughter of Duke Johann Georg. From her, the palace received its current name, "Princess's Palace".

After the extinction of the Saxe-Weissenfels line in 1746, the palace fell to the Electorate of Saxony. It was then used for various purposes, including as a barracks and a school.

The Princess's Palace is a three-story baroque building with a representative facade. The facade is adorned with rich stucco decorations and sculptures.

The interior of the palace is also richly decorated. The most important rooms include the ballroom, the audience chamber, and the ducal apartments.

The ballroom is a large, high-ceilinged room with a magnificent stucco ceiling and wall paintings. It was used for festive occasions and balls.

The audience chamber was used for official receptions and audiences. It is decorated with portraits of the ducal family and valuable tapestries.

The ducal apartments consisted of several rooms, including a bedroom, a living room, and a study. They were furnished with valuable furniture and works of art.

Today, the Princess's Palace houses the city museum. The museum presents the history of the city and the ducal court.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also regularly hosts special exhibitions and events.

The palace garden is also open to the public. It is a baroque garden with fountains, sculptures, and a rose garden.
