The Abbey of Grobe was founded between 1177 and 1178. It was consecrated to Saints Mary and Trinity and settled by Premonstratensian canons. The abbey developed into one of the first and most important settlements of this order in the region. In 1535, the monastery was dissolved during the Reformation.
