Prämonstratenserinnenstift Homberg (Efze)

In 1269, the convent was founded by canonesses from Eppenberg Abbey near Gensungen. Archbishop Werner of Mainz confirmed its establishment in the same year. The initiative largely came from Arnold, the provost of Eppenberg, who transferred extensive land and income to the new convent as initial endowment. The local noble family of Holzsadel also provided material support for the foundation. Although the Premonstratensian Order decided in 1270 to exclude nuns, the Homberg convent remained part of the order until at least 1322. Afterwards, Augustinian nuns resided there. In the 15th century, the monastery experienced a decline, prompting Landgrave Wilhelm II of Hesse in 1508 to issue an appeal for support for the convent. However, a revival did not occur, and following the Reformation in Hesse, the monastery was dissolved in 1527 by Landgrave Philipp I. The revenues from the former convent's possessions were allocated to the University of Marburg in 1540.

The monastery was located in the town of Homberg (Efze) in the Schwalm-Eder district, a region in the federal state of Hesse, Germany.

Of the former convent and economic buildings, only the so-called "Nonnenhaus" (Nuns' House) remains today. This 13th-century building is considered the oldest in Homberg. It is privately owned and not accessible to the public.
