Wülfersberg Chapel
Kloster Wülfersberg

The former Premonstratensian convent of Wülfersberg, now known as Wülfersberg Chapel, is a historic sacred building in Neuwied, Rhineland-Palatinate. It represents a significant cultural monument in Germany and bears witness to a long monastic tradition in the region.
History+
The Wülfersberg convent was founded by approximately 1140 as a filial convent of the nearby Rommersdorf Abbey. In 1179, the separation of assets between Wülfersberg and the mother abbey was completed. Through numerous donations, the convent achieved economic independence by the mid-13th century. The convent church, also known as St. Peter's Church, was dedicated to Saints Peter, Mary, and Archangel Michael. Due to the burdens of wartime conflicts and associated financial difficulties, which often necessitated the sale of assets, the convent was ultimately dissolved in 1521. The remaining nuns were relocated to other convents, and the properties reverted to the mother monastery. Around 1655, Abbot Petrus Dietrich of Rommersdorf initiated extensive restoration measures, and the church was reconsecrated in October of the same year, though monastic life was not resumed. During the secularization in 1804, there were plans by the Gladbach community to use stones from the church to expand the village chapel, which had become too small; however, this request was denied. Despite looting and decay, the church was later acquired and restored by the city of Neuwied.
