Poptaslot (Castle)
Poptaslot, a charming castle in the Dutch province of Friesland, rises in the village of Marssum. It is one of the well-preserved noble residences in the region and captivates with its historical furnishings, transporting visitors back to bygone eras.
History+
The origins of Poptaslot date back to the 15th century, when it was built by the Heringa family as a fortified house. In 1603, the estate came into the possession of Tjalling van Eysinga through marriage, who extensively remodeled it and gave it its current architectural form. After the death of the last resident from the van Eysinga family, the castle was sold in 1687 to Dr. Henricus Popta from Leeuwarden. He primarily used it as a summer residence until his death in 1712.

Poptaslot is located in Marssum, a village in the province of Friesland (Fryslân) in the northern Netherlands. It stands at an elevation of approximately 9 meters above sea level.

The castle is no longer inhabited today, but its rooms are splendidly furnished and equipped in the style of the 17th and 18th centuries. Visitors can tour Poptaslot, which serves as a museum. On the upper floor, among other things, two impressive oak bed niches from around 1540 can be admired.
