Pflegeamt Castle

Until 1553, the Nuremberg offices of Stierberg and Betzenstein were united and, since Betzenstein Castle had been ruined in 1420/21, were administered from Stierberg. After the destruction of Stierberg, the Imperial City housed its administrator in a purchased burgher's house on Betzenstein market square. This house was gifted to the city as a town hall in 1572, while the administrator moved into the property of Hans Völkl. Only in 1668 was the construction of an administrative office building planned. For this purpose, the Imperial City acquired the property of a Bernhard Schaumberger, located in the northwestern part of the city. Here, the new Pflegschloss (administrative castle) was then built in 1669/70, the building history of which has not yet been researched in detail. During renovations around 1905, the two-story building received a south gable with Neo-Renaissance style elements. In the 20th century, the Pflegschloss was for some time owned by the municipality, which also used it as a schoolhouse.
