Construction and Early Years

The Palais was built in 1706 by Johann Wilhelm von Zocha. In 1746, Zocha sold the Palais to the margravial government, which used it as an embassy and a fitting accommodation for royalty. From 1816 to 1974, the Palais served as the town hall and since 1984 as the city museum.
