Palais Spinrath

The origins of the Palais Spinrath lie in a Cölestinerinnen monastery, constructed between 1696 and 1712 under the direction of Matteo Alberti. In October 1794, the monastery suffered severe damage from a fire during an artillery attack by the French Revolutionary Army. Between 1805 and 1812, Adolph von Vagedes converted the damaged building into a three-story residential house. From 1817, it housed Wilhelm Cleff's company, which later evolved into an early Düsseldorf banking house. The building subsequently became the property of Lorenz Spinrath. From 1825 to 1859, the significant Lithographische Anstalt Arnz & Comp. was located here, and painters Andreas and Oswald Achenbach had their studios in the building. Between 1862 and 1883, an eye clinic was situated in the Palais. Damaged again during World War II, the facade was later integrated into the building complex of the former regional court.

The historic facade of the Palais Spinrath is a protected monument and is now part of the Andreasquartier, a modern real estate project. It is considered a significant example of the early Vagedes era, showcasing a harmonious blend of Baroque and early Classicism.
